Internship/work within the industry
- Internship (free seat at one of our industry partners)
- 50% work (paid) at industry and get extension for PhD programme
Duration of internship/work will vary for each available position. Extension to the PhD programme is up to one year so the total PhD time should not exceed 4 years.
Internship Scholarship 2024 - Closed
Internship Program Exclusively for PhD candidates of INRESCOS
INRESCOS is pleased to announce four founded internship Scholarships for PhD candidates interested in spending minimum three months in a relevant industrial company to advance their research. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and apply academic research in an industrial context.
Each internship is funded with up to NOK 100.000, - for the three-month period to cover related expenses.
Application Deadline: December 15th, 2024
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be no further than two years into their PhD program at the time of application.
- Internship proposal (max 2 pages):
- Collaborative Plan: Applicants must submit a structured plan outlining their internship goals and detailing the agreement established with a partnering company in a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed by a manager. This agreement must be confirmed prior to application submission.
- Research Relevance: Applicants must clearly articulate how the internship will advance their doctoral research and contribute to achieving their project’s milestones and which transferrable skills they are planning to advance.
Budget Submission: Applicants must include a detailed budget plan. Eligible expenses, up to a maximum of NOK 100.000, -, may cover travel, accommodation, and other costs directly related to the internship. Please note that the scholarship is taxable.
- Supervisor Approval: A letter from the applicant’s primary supervisor is required. This letter should endorse the internship, confirming that the proposed activities will benefit the PhD project and will not delay the student’s academic timeline.
Commitments:
- Presentation: Upon completion of the internship, participants are required to present their findings and experiences at an INRESCOS event.
- Summary Report: Each intern will submit a written summary of their internship experience, highlighting key insights and impacts on their PhD research (approx. 2 pages).
This program is a unique chance to enhance your doctoral research, broaden your professional network, and engage directly with industry experts. We look forward to receiving applications from highly motivated PhD candidates ready to bridge academic research with industry needs.

This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and apply academic research in an industrial context.
Each internship is funded with up to NOK 100.000, - for the three-month period to cover related expenses.
Application Deadline: June 15th, 2025
Please note: Three of these scholarships can be awarded before the application deadline, meaning we are accepting and processing applications on a rolling basis!

Travel and accommodation grants
Members of Industry research school in complex systems can apply for travel grant to participate in the schools’ courses and workshops outside their hometown.
Members can receive up to NOK 2500 per round trip.
Hotel accommodation costs can be covered up to NOK 1200 per night for duration of the course.
We do not cover per diem/subsistence allowance.

Membership criterias
Membership in the Industrial Research School is open to all PhD students at Norwegian institutions, who feels that their project is related to complex industrial systems. You can be a member of several research schools simultaneously, and there are no obligations to being a member. It is not required that your project is directly related to an industrial company.
