Preparing Researchers for Real Engineering Impact

Scholarship for Internship

Where Research Meets Industry: Developing the Next Generation of Engineers

Ramy Alham is the first PhD candidate from the University of Agder to receive the prestigiouse INRESCOS Scholarship for Internship. We asked hip what this opportunity ment for his PhD journey.

People often think a PhD means spending years buried in books and theories, far away from real problems and real engineering. But sometimes, the most meaningful research happens when you step out of the academic world and into the places where technology is built, tested, and put to work.

In his PhD, Ramy focuses on advanced modeling and control strategies for offshore wind turbine handling and major component exchange using up-tower crane systems. His research combines dynamic simulations and control design using industry-standard tools such as OrcaFlex, OrcaWave, Sesam, and SimulationX, along with custom programming for optimization and automation. This work aims to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability in offshore lifting operations, bridging theoretical research with practical industrial applications in renewable energy. Under supervision Mohammad Poursina (UiA), Zhiyu Jiang (UiA), Morten Kjeld Ebbesen (UiA), Michael Rygaard Hansen (UiA).
