The second edition of SAFIR led by Ass. Prof. Kostas Nizamis and Prof. Maarten Bonnema from the University of Twente welcomed 6 early-career researchers, PhD candidates from INRESCOS, and highly experienced researchers from USN, UiA, NTNU and the LUT University of Finland to a workshop.
The topic of the workshop was "How to succeed in research projects with business?"
The participants were challenged to prepare a case before they came to the workshop. In groups, they should create a research plan using SASER (Spiral Approach for SE Research), an approach that can help companies see and adopt findings earlier. It can also help avoid analysis lock-in for the researcher and thus be an important factor in maintaining motivation.
The primary trade-off was balancing the creation of value for the stakeholders with safeguarding academic growth and ensuring value for the students.
The workshop led to many engaging and insightful discussions.
